FPV UMB profiles itself as an educational institution preparing teachers of academic subjects, professional subjects and practical training, as well as professionals for non-teaching practice. The faculty with its varied professional natural science and environmental focus is unique in the Central Slovakia region. Exchange study stays abroad, mobility within the Erasmus programme (e.g. Universidad de Murcia in Spain, Oulu University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Friedrich Schiller University of Jena in Germany, etc.) are carried out for outstanding students.
Studies in the fields of teaching of academic subjects and teaching of vocational subjects and practical training are generally carried out in two subjects or as single-subject teaching in the second cycle of higher education. For teachers who wish to extend their field of study with an additional subject, the faculty organises extension studies in external form within the framework of the current legislation on further education.
Teachers are prepared for the second level of primary schools, grammar schools and other secondary schools. Their professional competence is guaranteed by the professional level of the departments. The teachers are trained in the following subjects
In non-teaching study programmes: forensic and criminal chemistry, environmental science, environmental management, ecology and ecosystem protection, geography, geography and regional development, mathematics, actuarial, financial and statistical mathematics, applied computer science and applied geology prepare professionals for practice.
Doctoral programmes in mathematical analysis, theory of mathematics teaching, theory of physics teaching, didactics of geography, geochemistry, remediation of environmental burdens, evolution of ecosystems and their protection aim at acquiring knowledge based on the current state of scientific knowledge in the given field of study.
The study of all study programmes is carried out in the buildings of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the MBU in Banská Bystrica. The material and technical provision of teaching fully corresponds to the given degree and focus of the study programme, which has received valid accreditation.
