Environmental Biology
Graduates will acquire basic knowledge of biological, ecological and environmental sciences. Understands the principles and chronology of the evolution of life on Earth with emphasis on the evolution of Central European nature in the postglacial, knows the historical context of range changes, patterns of distribution of biota in the context of climatic and anthropic changes, and applies the acquired knowledge in the assessment of contemporary changes of the Earth, region and locality. Based on key features, can classify and specify important microorganisms, algae, fungi, bryophytes, vascular plants, invertebrates and vertebrates. They can define their life requirements, indicator traits, adaptations to changed conditions and their relationship to habitat. Apply knowledge of theoretical population, community and ecosystem ecology to biodiversity conservation issues and biological principles of nature conservation. Recognizes the formative types of habitats and ecosystems of Slovakia, their structure, ecological characteristics, main threat factors and impacts of their action, as well as basic management of their protection and restoration. He/she is oriented in the priorities of nature and landscape conservation, has an overview of general, territorial and species nature conservation at the theoretical and practical level, understands the genetic approach to management and protection of populations. He/she is familiar with the principles of ecological research and monitoring, bioindications and biomonitoring. Understands the basic concepts, processes, principles and problems related to the different components of the environment (lithosphere, soil, water, air and biota). Understands monitoring and information systems related to these components. Knows the interrelationships between (i) biota, (ii) public and environmental health, and (iii) different forms of mechanical, physico-chemical and anthropic disturbances within each component of the environment. The acquired knowledge can also be understood in the legislative framework by mastering the basic legal terminology, institutional provision of law, competences, powers and decision-making processes of public administration bodies, the legislative process itself, as well as the basic sectoral - component legislation at the international level, the level of the European Union and the Slovak Republic.
Skills
The graduate is characterised by independence in solving specific problems. Proficient in:
- basic methods used in molecular biology to diagnose and study the biodiversity of microorganisms and macroorganisms,
- current field and laboratory methods in biology, ecology, conservation biology,
- current field and laboratory methods in environmental science for the assessment of soil, water and air,
- basic principles of investigative methods for the assessment of public and environmental health,
- qualitative and quantitative data acquisition methods, - monitoring and biomonitoring methods,
- database processing,
- basic statistical characterization and basic statistical processing of data,
- spatial or graphical interpretation of data in a GIS environment,
- preparation of a simple project proposal along with a budget for various domestic and international grant mechanisms.
Competencies
The graduate will apply his/her biological, ecological and environmental education at lower management levels in various public, private and non-governmental organizations focused on nature and landscape conservation, care of the environment and its individual components, management of ecological and environmental problems and risks. He or she may work in specialised laboratories, as a database manager of biological, ecological and environmental data and as a GIS worker for spatial interpretation and graphical output of these data. Graduates may also pursue further university studies in the field or related fields of study.

Conditions of admission to the first degree of study
The admission examination for the first degree of study in both full-time and part-time form of study
in the academic year 2023/2024 will take place as follows:
1. applicants may be enrolled in study programmes of the Faculty of Business Administration of the MBU, on the basis of the proposal of the study programme guarantor, be admitted without the admission examination in the event that the number of applicants for the study programme does not exceed the planned number. The basic condition for their admission will be the successful completion of secondary school by passing the matriculation examination;
2. in the event that the number of applicants for a given study programme significantly exceeds the planned capacity of the faculty, applicants will be admitted on the basis of the results of the entrance examination (written tests). The successful applicant must achieve a minimum level of success of 50% by solving the written test (in the case of teacher's programmes of study in a combination of subjects, the success rate is related to the test for each subject of study).
The written tests will be written:
- in mathematics within the scope of the grammar school curriculum for the study of mathematics, mathematics teaching,
- in physics within the scope of the grammar school curriculum for the study of physics teaching,
- in the overview of the technical application of mathematics and physics for the study of technology teaching,
- in biology within the scope of the grammar school curriculum for the study of biology teaching,
- in biology and ecology within the scope of the high school curriculum for the study of environmental biology,
- in chemistry within the scope of the high school curriculum for the study of teaching chemistry, forensic and criminal chemistry,
- in geography within the scope of the high school curriculum for the study of teaching geography,
- in elementary science subjects: geography, biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics for the study of the geopotential of regions,
- from mathematics and computer science within the scope of the grammar school curriculum for the study of the teaching of computer science, applied computer science and software development,
- from pedagogy at the level of a graduate of the secondary school of education and from the overview of the technical application of mathematics and physics for the study of the teaching of practical training.
Written tests and conditions for admission to the teacher study programmes in combination, where one of the approbation subjects is a subject implemented at the PF UMB:
- psychology teaching - the basic condition for their admission is the successful completion of secondary school by passing the matriculation examination. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of psychology and biology within the scope of the high school curriculum.
Written tests and conditions for admission to combined teacher study programmes, where one of the qualifying subjects is a subject implemented at the Faculty of Arts of the MBU:
- Teaching English language and literature (combined) - the prerequisite for studying teaching English language and literature in all combinations is the mastery of English language at least at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Admission is conditional on passing the General Aptitude Test of the National Comparative Examination, which is provided by Scio and replaces the entrance examination. Scio test results not older than 3 years are accepted. Applicants will be ranked according to the percentile achieved. Applicants will be admitted to the various combinations according to the admission plan set out. - University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, Certificate in Advanced English;
- University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, Certificate of Proficiency in English;
- University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, First Certificate in English - grade A;
- IELTS - International English Language Testing System - minimum level 6,5;
- English language matriculation examination:
- level C1 - final grade excellent, commendable
- level B2 - external part min. 85 % + oral part of the evaluation "excellent". - Teaching History (combined) - the condition for admission to the study is passing the general study prerequisites test in the National Comparative Examination, which is provided by Scio and replaces the entrance exam. If an applicant has taken this examination within the last three years (2020-2022), it is sufficient if he/she attaches relevant proof of the result to his/her application form. If the number of applicants does not exceed the planned number of applicants, the obligation to take the entrance examination will be waived;
- Teaching of Philosophy and Civics (combined) - the ranking of applicants will be determined on the basis of (I) the average of the applicant's end-of-year report cards and (II) the average of the Civics subject (or equivalent subject), whereby for (I) the applicant may obtain a maximum of 60 points and for (II) a maximum of 40 out of 100 points. The final ranking of applicants will be determined by adding together the points obtained for the two complete parts of the study programme (approbations);
- Teaching French language and literature (combined) - without an entrance examination. The prerequisite for studying Teaching French Language and Literature in all combinations is proficiency in French at least at level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proof of the level of French language attained must be furnished by the applicant by producing at least one of the following documents:
- an internationally recognised DELF or DALF certificate;
- a French matriculation examination - level B1;
- completion of secondary school studies in the bilingual French section of a grammar school;
- a language certificate from a Slovak state/national language school or a foreign institution authorised to award language certificates in French;
- Teaching German language and literature (combined) - the prerequisite for studying teaching German language and literature in all combinations is proficiency in German language at least at B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Applicants will be admitted to the study programmes on the basis of the results of the general aptitude test of the National Comparative Examination, which is provided by Scio and replaces the entrance examination. Results of a Scio test not older than 3 years will be accepted. - Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom;
- TestDaF;
- Goethe-Zertifikat, at least level B1;
- ÖSD, at least level B1;
- German language diploma DSD I PRO, at least level B1;
- German language school-leaving examination, at least level B1;
- or proof of completion of secondary school studies in the bilingual German section of the Gymnasium.
If the number of applicants does not exceed the planned number of admitted candidates, the obligation to take the entrance exam will be waived;
- Teaching of Slovak language and literature (combined) - the condition for admission to the study is passing the test of general study prerequisites in the National Comparative Examination, which is provided by Scio and which replaces the entrance exam. If the number of applicants does not exceed the planned number of admitted candidates, the obligation to take the entrance examination will be waived;
Conditions for international students
According to Act No.422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Proofs and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, applicants who have completed a previous degree abroad are obliged to submit a recognition of an educational document obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic. The decision on the recognition of educational qualifications must be submitted by the accepted applicant no later than on the day of enrolment. Recognition of a document of education of a graduate of a secondary school abroad is within the competence of the Regional Education Office, which issues a decision after all conditions have been met. Recognition of a university graduate's education document (1st cycle and 2nd cycle in the case of continuation at a higher level) abroad is the responsibility of the university, which will issue a decision once all the conditions have been met. An exception is made for documents obtained on the territory of the Czech Republic, for which recognition is not required.
Applicants who have been granted asylum, subsidiary protection or temporary refuge (hereinafter also referred to as "persons with special legal status") in accordance with Section 56 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Act on Higher Education"), the condition of attainment of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education for the purpose pursuant to Section 56, Paragraph 1, of the Act on Higher Education may be met by a person with a special status of "refugee status". 1 of the Higher Education Act by means of an affidavit in accordance with Methodological Instruction No 4/2022 Special Conditions and Procedures of the MBU and its Faculties in Relation to Persons Granted Asylum, Subsidiary Protection or Temporary Shelter and a General Aptitude Test.
Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
Candidates enrolled in study programmes of the Faculty of Business Administration of the MBU may be admitted without entrance examinations on the basis of the proposal of the study programme guarantor if the number of applicants for the study programme does not exceed the planned number. The basic condition for their admission will be successful completion of secondary school by passing the matriculation examination

The deadline for applications for Bachelor's and Master's degrees, both full-time and part-time, is 30 April 2023. The date of the postmark is decisive. Applicants may apply for more than one degree programme, for each of which a new application form must be submitted and documented. A copy of the proof of fee payment must be attached to each application form. Without proof of payment of the fee, the applicant's application will not be accepted and will be returned.
The amount of the fee for the admission procedure for one study programme of full-time and part-time study is 35,- € (in case of sending also an electronic application 32,- €). In case of multiple applications, the amount is the same.
The fee is not refundable for applicants who have failed the entrance examinations or have not taken part in them. In case the applicant fails to appear for the entrance examination for serious reasons, a part of the fee will be refunded to him/her on the basis of an application, which must be delivered to the Department for Pedagogical Activities of the Faculty of Education of the MBU by the date of the entrance examinations (the date of postmark is decisive).
The theses for the entrance examinations, in which the content of the required curriculum is specified, will be sent to the applicants by the Department for Pedagogical Activities of the Faculty of Education together with the invitation to the entrance examinations.
