Knowledge
The graduate will acquire comprehensive theoretical knowledge in the interdisciplinary understanding of the interconnection of biological-ecological and environmental sciences. He/she has an overview of key practical applications and trends in the field with emphasis on reconstruction of historical ecosystem evolution, conservation biology, integrated management of territories, communities and populations, ecosystem services, biotechnological use of micro- and macroorganisms, biological methods of remediation of disturbed and contaminated sites, ecological restoration and expert assessment of anthropic pressure on biota, environment and humans with design of implementation measures to mitigate or eliminate the negative impact. He is oriented in the literature relevant to his field of study and uses the acquired knowledge effectively in solving his research plans. Is able to achieve original scientific results and adequately present them in a foreign language to the scientific community in the form of publications and outputs at domestic and foreign scientific and professional events. He/she broadens his/her knowledge and continuously monitors new findings in the field, on the basis of which he/she is able to formulate new hypotheses and strategies for further research and development of the scientific discipline. He has all the prerequisites to conceive proposals for research projects and apply for their financial support in domestic and foreign grant schemes. He/she works independently, but also as a member of larger interdisciplinary teams and can coordinate specialized teams within national and international projects. Possesses critical and analytical thinking skills and can engage in decision-making and management processes.
Skills
The graduate is proficient in methodological procedures for data acquisition in the laboratory and in the field and can process, evaluate, store and sort data using adequate modern software applications, statistical methods and GIS tools and interpret them in the context of current knowledge in the discipline. The student is able to apply his/her theoretical knowledge in practice in the assessment of changes in native and human-influenced ecosystems and is able to forecast their further development. The student is able to competently design and assess the appropriateness of basic types of conservation interventions, to decide on the solution of basic problems at the level of protection of species, communities and their environment, to define key problems and weaknesses in the practical conservation of nature and in the maintenance of a favourable state of the environment. He/she can creatively present and discuss the results of his/her activities with the professional public, communicate with the general public, correctly argue and defend his/her views on issues related to natural processes, nature conservation and environmental protection.He/she is able to participate in teaching and training of new professionals.
Competencies
Graduates can apply themselves in basic and applied research, in nature and environmental protection, agriculture, forestry and water management. They are able to take up positions in research institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, universities, specialised laboratories and departmental institutes, in state and public administration and local government at all levels of management, in museums, in the consultancy service and in the business sector.

Conditions of admission

Conditions of Admission to the 3rd Degree of Study

Information concerning the admission procedure for doctoral studies at the FPV UMB is currently published on the faculty's website in accordance with the current Directive on Doctoral Studies at the FPV UMB.



Conditions for international students

According to Act No.422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Proofs and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, applicants who have completed a previous degree abroad are obliged to submit a recognition of an educational document obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic. The decision on the recognition of educational qualifications must be submitted by the accepted applicant no later than on the day of enrolment. Recognition of a document of education of a graduate of a secondary school abroad is within the competence of the Regional Education Office, which issues a decision after all conditions have been met. Recognition of a university graduate's education document (1st cycle and 2nd cycle in the case of continuation at a higher level) abroad is the responsibility of the university, which will issue a decision once all the conditions have been met. An exception is made for documents obtained on the territory of the Czech Republic, for which recognition is not required.
Applicants who have been granted asylum, subsidiary protection or temporary refuge (hereinafter also referred to as "persons with special legal status") in accordance with Section 56 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Act on Higher Education"), the condition of attainment of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education for the purpose pursuant to Section 56, Paragraph 1, of the Act on Higher Education may be met by a person with a special status of "refugee status". 1 of the Higher Education Act by means of an affidavit in accordance with the Methodological Instruction No 4/2022 Special Conditions and Procedures of the MBU and its Faculties in Relation to Persons Granted Asylum, Subsidiary Protection or Temporary Shelter and a General Studies Aptitude Test.

General information on the admission exam

The deadline for applications for Bachelor's and Master's degrees, both full-time and part-time, is 31 March 2023. The postmark date is decisive. Applicants may apply for more than one degree programme, for each of which a new application form must be submitted and documented. A copy of the proof of fee payment must be attached to each application form. Without proof of payment of the fee, the applicant's application will not be accepted and will be returned.
The amount of the fee for the admission procedure for one study programme of full-time and part-time study is 35,- € (in case of sending also an electronic application 32,- €). In case of multiple applications, the amount is the same.
The fee is not refundable for applicants who have failed the entrance examinations or have not taken part in them. In case the applicant fails to appear for the entrance examination for serious reasons, a part of the fee will be refunded to him/her on the basis of an application, which must be delivered to the Department for Pedagogical Activities of the Faculty of Education of the MBU by the date of the entrance examinations (the date of postmark is decisive).
The theses for the entrance examinations, in which the content of the required curriculum is specified, will be sent to the applicants by the Department for Pedagogical Activities of the Faculty of Education together with the invitation to the entrance examinations.
