Slovak History

Graduates will achieve a full 3rd level university degree, which will enable them to enter practical professional life. The study programme in Slovak History with a focus on consolidating and developing knowledge in the field of historiography, methodology and methods of the discipline (including methods of historical geography and historical demography) is aimed at deepening independent and critical-analytical thinking and at developing practical skills in the production of historical images and historical knowledge. This will enable the graduate to use the acquired knowledge and competences in independent scientific research activities, solving complex research problems, publishing, creative and presentation activities. He/she has extensive general knowledge, can choose and apply specific methods of basic and applied research so as to bring new knowledge and interpretations in the field of historical sciences (he/she can formulate new hypotheses and determine strategies for further research and development of knowledge in the field). On the basis of his/her research results, he/she can design, validate and implement new research and working procedures. He/she is characterised by independent, critical and analytical thinking, which he/she applies in dynamically changing conditions. Independently and at a high scientific and communicative level, he/she presents research results to the professional community at home and abroad. He/she is able to formulate research plans, coordinate a team in a relevant scientific field, develop and implement an international research project. The graduate will find employment as a qualified expert (historian) primarily in scientific research and scientific-pedagogical institutions (SAV, colleges and universities), in cultural and social institutions (archive-historical researcher), as well as in higher levels of management of specialized and professional bodies of state administration.
