Characteristics of the study programme

The graduate has a comprehensive body of knowledge and is effectively oriented in the theory and methodology of science, in modern theoretical concepts of social work, including theories of social exclusion, and in the field of new trends in social policy. He/she is able to actively and independently acquire new knowledge, critically evaluate the development of theories and approaches related to the field in the world and apply the acquired knowledge to his/her work and the development of the field of social work. Possesses independent and critical thinking skills that can be applied in research work. Can formulate a research topic and the dominant theory on which it will be based, choose the optimal method of its processing, accept the ethical requirements and rules of research and publishing, can interpret their scientific outputs in a professional discussion and look for possibilities of their application in practice. The graduate will understand and be able to integrate knowledge from philosophy, sociology, law, psychology, psychotherapy into different approaches in social work, he/she will be able to identify individual theoretical concepts of counselling and supervision. He/she is proficient in theoretical concepts of power and can apply critical thinking to issues of power in the helping professions, and is prepared to apply cross-cultural concepts in his/her scholarly, research, and practice work. The graduate will acquire the prerequisites for scholarly work in the field of Social Work and in some related fields, and will be able to formulate hypotheses and strategies for research and development within the field.

The graduates meet the qualification prerequisite for the professional activity of social work (Act on Social Work 219/2014 Coll., § 5, paragraph 1, letter b), in all existing areas of practice, e.g. in the field of social services, social counselling, in the field of assessment activities, in the field of socio-legal protection and social guardianship, in the field of employment, etc.

Graduates will acquire the prerequisites for scientific work in the field of Social Work and in some related fields. They can be employed in universities as assistant professors, postdoctoral positions, and in scientific institutions that have such positions.

Graduates have the prerequisites to apply scientific research methods in practice within the field and specific social work paradigms.

With an orientation towards the concept of social inclusion, they can apply themselves in various national and international research teams (e.g. in national projects implementing inclusive approaches, in the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities, the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for National Minorities, etc.). Also as researchers in ministries or other state institutions - e.g. in research institutes of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family (MLSAF), the Implementation Agency of the MLSAF.
