Biotechnology

Graduates of the Master's degree programme in Biotechnology are professionals who find employment in various areas of social practice. They will acquire knowledge in biotechnology and related fields (mainly biological, chemical, genetic and their specialisations) underpinning the development of biotechnology, especially in the areas of white, green and red biotechnology. They are able to engage in research, development and innovation, particularly in industry, agriculture, health, environment, energy, as well as to apply their knowledge directly in production practice in these areas.
Graduates:
are able to investigate biomolecules and biological systems, as well as to use them practically,
are able to independently manage individual operations related to their targeted use in the agro-food, pharmaceutical-medical and chemical-environmental fields, as well as in the field of industrial use of renewable raw materials,
have sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to carry out both laboratory and production activities and to evaluate the data obtained, and are able to communicate with an equivalent level of management,
also have knowledge of the economic, legal, ethical and environmental aspects of biotechnology, which allows them to apply themselves at the middle level of functional activities in scientific research, but also in the production and business sphere.
Graduates of the study programme can seek employment in a wide range of workplaces with a biological and chemical focus, in research teams, as well as in independent work with a research and technical focus (SAV, universities, departments of health, agriculture and forestry, food industry, environment, etc.), as well as directly in production practice. They are prepared to meet the requirements of specialized institutions requiring field work, especially in workplaces dedicated to modern biotechnology, as well as in environmentally oriented workplaces, and they will also find employment in institutions of state and local government. Graduates also have a wide range of applications in private companies and industrial enterprises with innovative-technological orientation in biotechnology, as well as in related fields.
After the completion of the master's degree, graduates of the study programme can continue their doctoral studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava, within the study programme of the 3rd degree in Biotechnology, or at other faculties with a similar orientation.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to the study programme of the second degree is the completion of the study programme of the first degree (according to Section 56 (2) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
The admission to the chosen study programme takes into account the fact whether the applicant has completed a study programme at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava or at another university of related specialization.
The admission to the master's study programme evaluates the result of the bachelor's study. In the case of applicants from other faculties and completion of bachelor's studies in related fields, the composition of the courses taken in the first cycle of studies is also evaluated.
In the case of admission to the master's degree programme in applied biology, it is recommended that a student at the bachelor's level of studies should have completed the courses of molecular biology and microbiology.
In the case of completion of bachelor's studies in related fields, the Admissions Committee of the Faculty of Natural Sciences may require that an entrance examination be conducted.

The application form must include:
- curriculum vitae,
- proof of payment of the admission fee,
- university diploma officially certified (registry office/notary)
- diploma supplement officially certified (registry office/notary)
- state examination certificate officially certified (registry office/notary)
Applicant, who will take the State Final Examination of the first cycle of higher education in the academic year 2022/2023 and who has not been issued with a diploma as of the date of admission, shall provide a certificate of studies and a certified transcript of the courses taken in the course of study.
An applicant who is a graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava shall provide uncertified copies of the diploma, diploma supplement and state examination certificate.
The applicant who is a student of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava and will take the first degree state final examination in the academic year 2022/2023, shall submit the documents of graduation (study department)
The completed electronic application form is obliged to print, sign and send together with the required documents to the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava, Nám. J. Herdu 2, 917 01 Trnava
