Applied Biology

Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Biology will acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge, experience and habits that will enable them to:
understand the essential facts, principles and theories in biology,
know the connections between biology and other natural science disciplines,
be able to orient themselves in natural science disciplines,
have basic knowledge and from it be able to acquire, sort, process and use in-depth information from relevant databases and use them in solving tasks of basic and applied biological research,
be able to interdisciplinary research and know the nature of natural, technical and social processes taking place around us,
have the ability to make decisions when solving problems and designing measures,
be able to design and process innovative measures and changes in practice into a documentary form,
create projects, obtain project funding and successfully implement them in practice,
use existing and newly acquired knowledge of others and their own to creatively search for solutions that objectively move the current state of sustainable regional development forward.
Graduates of the study programme can seek employment in a wide range of workplaces with a biological and chemical focus, in research teams and in independent work with a research and technical focus (SAV, universities, health, agriculture and forestry, food industry, environment, etc.). They are prepared to meet the requirements of specialized institutions requiring field work, especially in microbiological, molecular-biological laboratories and environmentally-ecologically oriented workplaces; they will also be employed in state and local government institutions and in private companies with a research-technological orientation. 90% of the students continue their higher education at the 2nd level in Biology or in one of the related fields.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to the bachelor's programme is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education (§ 56 (1)). 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
The admission procedure is conducted without an entrance examination.
The data on the course of studies at secondary school will be decisive for the admission of the applicant to the bachelor study programme.
The following is taken into account when determining the score:
- the study average at secondary school without the matriculation examination,
- the result of the matriculation examination.
Students who have completed their studies at foreign universities, foreign students, shall submit nostrified documents on completed studies in accordance with Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Documents on Education and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts.



Additional information

The application form must include:
- CV,
- proof of payment of the admission fee,
- high school report cards for 1-4. year officially certified (registrar/notary)
- matriculation certificate officially certified (registrar/notary)
An applicant who graduates in the school year 2022/2023 shall list the grades from the end-of-year report cards for the 1st-3rd year on the application form (in the case of a five-year course of study, he/she shall list the grades for the 2nd-3rd year of study).4. year -4), which he/she will have confirmed by the secondary school in his/her application form, or he/she will submit the officially certified (by the registry office/notary) certificates mentioned above in his/her application form.
The 4th year (5th year) certificate and the matriculation certificate officially certified (by the registry office/notary) will be delivered to the applicant no later than by 12 December 2012.
The applicant who graduated before the school year 2022/2023 writes down the grades from the end-of-year certificates for the 1st-4th year (in case of five-year studies, he/she writes down the grades for the 2nd-5th year) and the graduation certificate in the application form.
Certificates for the 1st-4th year (2nd-5th year) are to be submitted to the faculty by the deadline of 12 June 2023.

Conditions for international students

Admission conditions for international students are the same as for students from the Slovak Republic. The condition of admission to the study programme conducted in Slovak language is the knowledge of Slovak language at the level enabling the study in Slovak language.
Foreign applicants prove their knowledge of the language with a Certificate of Slovak language proficiency at the B2 level.
