Teaching the subjects of Slovak language and literature

  • Faculty of Education - Teacher of religious education (in combination)
  • Faculty of Education - Physical education teacher (in combination)
  • Faculty of Education - Art teacher (in combination)

The graduate of the Bachelor's degree programme in Teaching of Slovak Language and Literature (combined) acquires knowledge about language and linguistics in general and about the laws of all levels of the system of the contemporary written Slovak language. In the literary component, the student learns about the theory of literature, the methodology of interpretation of an artistic text and the history of Slovak literature from the early Middle Ages to the literature of the first half of the 20th century in the context of European literature. In the course of studies, the graduate will be acquainted with the most important knowledge necessary for the teaching of academic subjects. The student will master the professional content of the discipline of Slovak language and literature as a specific area of human knowledge. He/she can actively work with and use this knowledge. He/she is able to expand his/her knowledge and skills in his/her specialisation throughout his/her life. Has adequate knowledge of pedagogical research methods and general didactics.



Prospects of graduates

The graduate of the study is ready to obtain full teaching competence at the second level of higher education. In pedagogical practice and institutional education, he/she can only be employed as an assistant teacher or assistant teacher of Slovak language and literature at all school levels, as an assistant pedagogical worker for extracurricular interest activities of children at school and in leisure time centres for children and youth, e.g. in literary, dramatic, interpretive-recitation interest units, etc., also as a teacher's assistant in various schools of artistic orientation (ZUŠ, conservatories, in the fields of literary creativity, recitation, creative dramatics, performing arts, etc.). In the labour market there is also room for its application in the management of education in sessions with auxiliary functions in administrative and methodological work. Finally, he/she can be useful in the management of school libraries, in editorial, editorial and publishing work, and in the broad sphere of mass media communication.

Conditions of admission

Admission requirements for study programmes:

PHILOSOPHY, HISTORY, TEACHING SUBJECTS IN COMBINATION (except TEACHING ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE IN COMBINATION) and INTERMEDICAL STUDIES

  • completion of upper-secondary education or complete upper-secondary vocational education;
  • completion of upper-secondary education or complete upper-secondary vocational education
  • commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and faculty;
  • in the case of applicants to the study programme TeACHING SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE IN COMBINATION, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic, it is necessary to prove the level of proficiency in the Slovak language (according to the Common European Framework of Reference) - at least at the B2 level.

Applicants will be ranked in the final order on the basis of the results of the matriculation examination.



Additional information

The KU Faculty of Arts also offers the possibility of inter-faculty teaching combinations, i.e. the candidate can choose one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Arts and one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Education (accredited study programmes of the Faculty of Arts can be found at http://pf.ku.sk). Applicants for interfaculty programmes must meet the admission requirements from both teaching subject specialisations.

For the music education, art education, and physical education teacher education programs, successful completion of a talent exam is required.

Handicapped applicants may request that the form and manner of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their handicap (written request is sent with the application form).

General information on the admission exam

The application must be accompanied by:

a) a certified copy of your high school diploma

- applicants who have passed the matriculation examination in the previous period shall submit a certified copy of the matriculation certificate together with the application form,

- applicants who have passed the matriculation examination in the previous period shall submit a certified copy of the matriculation certificate together with the application form,

- applicants who will take the matriculation examination in 2022 shall submit a certified copy of their matriculation certificate after the matriculation examination,

b) fee payment receipt to be pasted on page 3 of the application form (without proof of payment, the application will not be registered),

c) a decision on the recognition of a foreign secondary school diploma for the purpose of continuing studies in the Slovak Republic (valid for applicants who obtained their secondary education abroad),

d) a certificate proving the level of Slovak language proficiency (at least B2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference (valid for applicants for study programmes requiring the submission of the document).

Student applicants can also submit only electronic application form without the need to print it, sign it and send it to the postal address of the faculty.

Acknowledgement of the registration of the application form and information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or conventional mail.

Deadline for verification of admission requirements: June 30, 2022 at the latest.

A written decision on the result of the admission procedure will be sent to applicants no later than 30 days after the verification of the fulfilment of the admission requirements. The written decision shall be delivered to the applicants by hand.
