Social work as a field of study

Social work is a single-discipline study aimed at preparing professionals for the field of social work at all levels. The standard length of study in the full-time form is 3 years (6 semesters)

Study in Social Work prepares university-educated, independent workers capable of providing, coordinating and directly delivering social care and social services for all groups of the population dependent on any type of social protection.

Social work as a discipline:

Social work is a multidisciplinary field of scientific knowledge that deals with the scientific understanding of social problems - their origins, causes, possible solutions, the question of the responsibility of the citizen and the state, the optimal level and forms of assistance for the individual, group or community.



Prospects of graduates

The study programme is built so that its graduate can apply in the sense of Act No.2019/2014 Coll. on Social Work in the position of social work assistant. The study profile is adjusted according to the real needs of the profession so that the graduates of the programme are able to competently assist in the performance of social work in the intent of the professional activities of the Act on Social Protection of Children and Adult Social Guardianship and in the scope of the Act on Social Services. Upon graduation, the graduate will possess knowledge in the field of bio-psycho-social developmental characteristics of the individual, which, together with practiced communication skills, can be competently applied when working with them. In the selection and implementation of effective procedures in working with clients, he/she is based on the knowledge base of philosophical and social theoretical foundations of work, legislative and economic realities of Slovakia.

The graduate of the Bachelor's degree in Social Work is able to locate, approach and motivate clients for cooperation. He/she has knowledge of the specifics of individual types of clients, knows the mechanisms of their behaviour, can obtain the necessary information about the client, his/her family for the assessment of his/her life situation, can analyse the problems of the client or a group of clients or the community and under the supervision of a social worker can propose forms and methods of social work leading to an increase in the quality of their life. He/she has professional communication skills, can work in a multidisciplinary team and has basic relevant knowledge of law, economics, psychology, sociology and other sciences. He/she is knowledgeable about the social policy of the state and its development trends, can coordinate his/her work with other professionals and effectively create a network of support for individual and group clients. He/she is prepared to work in social service institutions, in institutions of social protection of children and adult guardianship. He mostly works directly with the target client group and his aim is to improve their quality of life and ensure optimal social functioning, especially through the use of his social-psychological and human resource development skills, as well as working with his environment

Under Act No. 219/2014 Coll. on Social Work, the graduate of the bachelor's degree programme will be employed as an assistant social worker who carries out his/her professional activity within the intentions of Act No. 448/2008 Coll. on Social Services as amended and Act No.305/2005 on social protection of children and social guardianship, as amended, in accordance with the Statistical Classification of Occupations SK ISCO-08 in the position of assistant social worker in the following positions:

Conditions of admission

In accordance with the Act on Higher Education § 53, a.3 and according to the Study Regulations of the University of Trnava, Art. 3, paragraph 1Conditions for admission to studies the basic condition for admission to bachelor studies is the acquisition of complete secondary education or complete secondary vocational education. The faculty may set additional conditions for admission to individual programmes of study in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and aptitudes are admitted to study. The conditions laid down and the method of verifying that they have been met must be such as to enable the selection of applicants who show the highest degree of aptitude for the studies to be made.

Electronic application form must be accompanied by a hard copy with signature.

If an applicant fails to complete the required parts of the application within the specified time limit after being asked to complete the missing parts of the application, he/she is disqualified from the admission process. The admission fee will not be refunded.



Conditions for international students

An applicant who has completed his/her secondary education abroad shall submit nostrified educational documents. For foreign students the same admission conditions apply, but if the foreign applicant does not have a matriculation exam in Slovak or Czech, he/she must also take a test in Slovak prepared by the school as part of the admission procedure.
