Social work (part-time study)
The third degree of the Social Work study programme is designed as a preparation for independent scientific work. Building on the knowledge acquired in previous studies, the study programme is oriented to deepen and improve theoretical knowledge with a priority orientation to the ongoing scientific discourse in the international and especially European space, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary understanding of the issues under study. Scientific knowledge is helped to develop through the student's knowledge of the epistemology of science, the specifics of social work by the current discourse in the field. Required electives allow the student to focus either on the field of social work conceptualization or on trends and innovations in research and therapeutic-counseling practice. The choice of this orientation depends on the chosen topic of the doctoral thesis. The scientific part of the study programme for the third degree is designed in such a way that it encourages the student to engage in the current research activities of the department and the department, to participate in the preparation of scientific projects, and to prepare for systematic scientific work through active participation in scientific events at home and abroad. The scientific programme requires the student to present the results of his/her own scientific research at domestic and foreign conferences and also to publish the results of his/her scientific work in domestic and foreign journals, scientific proceedings with the "A" publication output categorization. The study programme also includes a dissertation examination with a defence of the research plan and a final defence of the dissertation.
Prospects of graduates
The doctoral programme prepares future graduates to be able to design and conduct innovative and high quality research in the context of international research in the field of social work. In the third cycle of study, the focus is on a thorough orientation in past and current trends, philosophical concepts and theories of social work, together with their application to the chosen field of research, while emphasis is also placed on the intersection of the various scientific disciplines and the resulting interdisciplinary aspect. The student acquires a broad professional knowledge of the field of study, which serves as a basis for conducting research and creating new knowledge in the field of social work.
The graduate of the doctoral program in social work is characterized by critical, divergent and analytical thinking, which he/she applies during his/her research work, pedagogical activities, and in society as a whole. He/she is able to set research objectives, formulate hypotheses and research questions, choose specific scientific research methods, adequately and eruditely interpret results, compare them with other research and present scientific research activities with clear argumentation in front of the scientific, professional and lay community in Slovakia and abroad. On the basis of own research findings, he/she is able to propose and implement new research or practical procedures in a given field and coordinate team research work.

A graduate of the second cycle of university studies in the field of social work, as well as a graduate of the second cycle of university studies in related fields of study, may apply for admission to doctoral studies. Before the admission procedure for doctoral studies, the faculty will announce the topics of dissertations. Applicants for doctoral studies shall apply for these topics. For each of the announced topics, a supervisor is appointed, who is a full-time employee of the faculty and approved by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the TU. If necessary, the student may also be assigned a specialist supervisor, who must also be approved by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Technology. The faculty, in agreement with the relevant guarantors of the field, may also accept a topic proposed by the applicant. The condition of admission to the study is the submission of the application form within the specified deadline. In addition to the application form for doctoral studies, the applicant must attach:
1. Curriculum Vitae
2. proof of payment of the admission fee of 40,-€
3. certified documents of the completion of the 2nd level of education - diploma, certificate and diploma supplement (applies to applicants who graduated in the academic year 2021/2022 and earlier
applicants who will finish the 2nd level of education in the academic year 2021/2022 and earlier
applicants who will finish the 2nd level of education in the academic year 2021/2022 and earlier
2. degree in the academic year
2022/2023 shall provide a confirmation of school attendance and a statement of the results of
studies for the closed period
4. a project on the topic of the dissertation
5. participation in the SVOČ, awards received for studies, the applicant's own publishing activity, etc.
6. Completion of an indication of the foreign language in which the candidate will take the language examination

Additional information
The admission procedure for doctoral studies consists of an examination in professional subjects, including a presentation of the dissertation project and a professional discussion of it, which also includes methodological issues of the planned research, and an examination in a world language (English, German).
The entrance examination is held before an admissions committee of at least three members. It shall consist of a chairman and other members. The admission board shall evaluate the result of the admission examination at a closed meeting. If several applicants for doctoral studies in the same field of study take part in the entrance examination, the admissions board shall determine the order of the applicants according to the result of the entrance examination. In determining the order, the admissions committee shall also take into account the extent of the applicant's publications and other professional activities, as well as the applicant's readiness to work with foreign scientific literature. The faculty decides on the method of evaluation of the entrance examination and the allocation of points that can be obtained from the individual parts of the entrance examination, and publishes this method in the conditions of the admission procedure.
Conditions for international students
Graduates of foreign universities with adequate scope and content of studies who have nostrified diplomas may also apply for admission. If the applicant has completed his/her higher education studies abroad, the procedure is in accordance with Act No 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Qualifications and the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts and the procedures for the recognition of studies and documents of the University of Trnava in Trnava. If such a student wishes to study in Slovak language, he/she must prove his/her knowledge of the language when defending his/her research project.

A report shall be drawn up on the outcome of the admission procedure and proposals for the admission of successful candidates to doctoral studies shall be made. This protocol shall be submitted by the chair of the admissions committee to the dean of the faculty on the day of the admission examinations. The dean of the faculty shall decide on the admission of the applicant to the studies within 30 days from the date of the admission examinations.
Form of entrance exam
The entrance examination is held before a selection committee, which determines the applicant's readiness for the doctoral study programme. The entrance examination consists of the following components:
a) Written examination of Language Competence (working with a professional foreign language text)- it constitutes 0-20% of the total score - max. 60 points
b) Written research project proposal (0- 40%) - max 40 points

Maximum possible score for the admission process is 250 points. The ranking of applicants will be determined by the committee in closed session. The results of the admission procedure will be published by the Faculty on its website and applicants will be informed in writing.
