Child Development and Family Studies (full-time study)

The curriculum responds to the changes in postmodern society and the development of knowledge. In the context of the field of social work, it specializes in work with children, youth and family. The programme is based on the demands of the labour market and seeks to respond to them in innovative and creative ways.

Teaching is concentrated on the acquisition of knowledge, experience and skills in the field of bio-psycho-social development of the child and focuses on methods of working with the family.

The program is characterized by being innovative in its preference for modern methods of working with the child and his/her family, flexible in the educators' approach to the students, creative in the opportunities for their self-development and self-realization, and distinctly multi-disciplinary in nature. Its studies provide in particular : social-psychological competences for work with the family and the child, professional applicable knowledge in psychology, pedagogy, law, sociology, pediatrics, economics and management; to acquire and develop practical skills in specific communication, in rehabilitation, counselling and therapeutic techniques, in advocacy, mediation and management.



Prospects of graduates

Law No.219/2014 in a way "protects" the profession so that the positions of assistant of social work for the performance of professional activities in the field of social services and social-legal protection of the child and social guardianship can only be performed by a graduate of bc. of social work. In 2018, 1682 students graduated from the faculty, 61% of whom remained working in the field they graduated from ( https://www.truni.sk/news/dve-tretiny-nasich-absolventov-pracuju-vo-svojom-odbore) and only 1% were unemployed. The study programme responds to the needs of practice - to prepare the modern social worker. It focuses on working with the family and the child, especially in problematic social situations. Working with vulnerable clientele requires an integrated personality of the candidate. Graduates of this programme usually work directly with the target client group within government, local government and the third sector. He/she will find employment in social service institutions, social protection of children and adult guardianship institutions. His/her aim is to improve the quality of life of the child and his/her family.

Conditions of admission

In accordance with the Act on Higher Education § 53, a.3 and according to the Study Regulations of the University of Trnava, Art. 3Conditions for admission to studies the basic condition for admission to the Bachelor's degree programme is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education. The faculty may set additional conditions for admission to individual programmes of study in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary skills and aptitudes are admitted to study. The conditions laid down and the method of verifying that they have been met must be such as to enable the selection of applicants who show the highest degree of aptitude for the studies to be made.

The application form includes:

- CV

-receipt of payment of the admission fee

- medical certificate of eligibility to study at the university

Medical fitness certificate- social work

- Cover letter

- certified copies of annual report cards and high school diplomas

The electronic application must be accompanied by a hard copy application form with signature.

If an applicant fails to complete the required parts of the application form within the stipulated time limit after being asked to complete the missing parts of the application form, he/she shall be disqualified from the admission process. The admission fee will not be refunded.



Conditions for international students

An applicant who has completed his/her secondary education abroad shall submit nostrified educational documents.

The same admission conditions apply to foreign students, but if the foreign applicant does not have a matriculation exam in Slovak or Czech, he/she must also take a test in Slovak prepared by the school as part of the admission procedure.
