Laboratory Testing Methods in Health Care (part-time study)

III. degree of the study programme Laboratory Investigation Methods in Health Care is designed as a preparation for independent scientific work. Building on the knowledge acquired in the previous studies, the study programme is oriented to deepen and improve theoretical knowledge with a priority orientation to the ongoing scientific discourse in the international and especially European area.

The scientific part of the study programme for the 3rd degree is designed, in accordance with the requirements of the description, to involve the student in the current research activities of the department, to participate in the preparation of scientific projects, and to prepare for scientific work through active participation in scientific events at home and abroad. The scientific programme requires the student to present the results of his/her own scientific research at national and international conferences and also to publish the results of his/her scientific work in national and international journals and scientific proceedings. Students are encouraged to focus their publishing activities primarily on A-level outputs.



Prospects of graduates

The graduate can apply in:
- state and private health care institutions (medical laboratories - department of clinical biochemistry, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, clinical hematology, clinical immunology, department of pathology)
- research institutions with medical or biomedical focus as a scientist
- public administration in the field of health policy development
- as a pedagogical and scientific worker in educational organizations

A graduate of doctoral studies in the study programme Laboratory Investigation Methods in Healthcare after the completion of the study is able to apply theoretical knowledge and knowledge in the field of LVM in scientific work, to select appropriate laboratory methods to obtain the expected results, to create and manage a scientific team in connection with the solution of research tasks, to publish, present the results of his and team scientific work.

Conditions of admission

The admission condition is the completion of the second level of higher education studies, the candidate for doctoral studies is able to demonstrate knowledge and skills at the level of graduation from the master's degree of the LVMvZ study programme. An applicant who has completed a second cycle of higher education studies abroad must submit a decision on the equivalence of education and the transfer of grades issued by the Ministry of Education and Science. The condition for admission to the study is a matriculation in Slovak language.



Conditions for international students

Graduates of foreign universities with adequate scope and content of studies who have proof of equivalence of education in the relevant field may also apply for admission. If the applicant has completed his/her higher education studies abroad, he/she is subject to Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of documents of education and recognition of professional qualifications and on amendment and supplementation of certain acts and according to the procedures for recognition of studies and documents of the University of Trnava in Trnava.

Foreign applicants will take a test in the Slovak language to test their communication skills in the Slovak language at B1 level. An acceptable alternative to the Slovak language matriculation/exam is the Czech language matriculation.

General information on the admission exam

The admission procedure for doctoral studies in the study programme Laboratory Investigation Methods in Healthcare consists of an examination in professional subjects, including a presentation of the dissertation project and a professional discussion of it, which also includes methodological issues of the planned research and an examination in a world language (English, German). The admission procedure also takes into account the extent of the applicant's publications and other professional activities, as well as the applicant's readiness to work with foreign scientific literature.



Form of entrance exam

The entrance examination is held before a selection committee, which determines the applicant's readiness for the doctoral study programme. The entrance examination consists of the following components

1. Written examination in a foreign language

  • the selected foreign language shall be indicated by the candidate in the application form, and according to the results of the test, the committee may subsequently claim the right to conduct an interview within the framework of the presentation and discussion of the project on the topic of the dissertation in the given language
  • for this area, the candidate may obtain a maximum of 60 points

2. An oral interview focused on knowledge in the field

  • the interview is aimed at determining the applicant's prerequisites for successful entry into doctoral studies, with the topics and question headings of the oral interview published on the faculty's website - http://fzsp.truni.sk/okruhy-otazok-na-prijimacie-pohovory
  • for this area, the candidate can obtain a maximum of 60 points

3. Presentation and discussion of the project and dissertation topic

  • the applicant presents his/her own project on the dissertation topic, submitted with the application, to the committee, with a stipulated length of the project of between 2000 and 3500 words
  • the committee evaluates the quality of the project, the feasibility of the project, the choice of the research strategy, the presentation of the applicant's research plan, the applicant's response to the questions and suggestions of the committee

The dissertation project should be discussed in advance with the supervisor or, where appropriate, with the supervisor's specialist supervisor. 4. Other documented prerequisites for scholarly activity

  • e.g. participation in the SVOČ, awards for studies, own publication activity of the applicant, etc.
  • for this area the applicant may obtain a maximum of 30 points

Methodology of evaluation of the admission procedure:
a) 1. written test - foreign language exam - the selected foreign language shall be indicated by the applicant in the application form (max 60 points)
b) 2. oral interview focused on the knowledge that is a prerequisite for successful entry to the doctoral studies, while the topics and topics of questions of the oral interview in individual disciplines are published on the faculty website -http://fzsp.truni.sk/okruhy-otazok-na-prijimacie-pohovory (max 60 points)
c) 3. presentation and discussion of the project on the topic of the dissertation - the candidate presents his/her own project on the topic of the dissertation to the committee, which was submitted with the application - the specified scope of the project is from 2000 to 3500 words - the committee evaluates the quality of the developed project, the feasibility of the project, the choice of the research strategy, the presentation of the candidate's scientific research plan, the candidate's response to the questions and suggestions of the committee. The dissertation project should be consulted with the supervisor or a specialist supervisor in advance. The ranking of applicants is determined by the committee in a closed meeting. The results of the admission procedure will be published by the faculty on its website and applicants will be informed in writing.
