Philosophy

The graduate of the Philosophy study programme has a comprehensive and complete knowledge of philosophy, which corresponds to a deeper insight into the issues covering the individual areas of philosophical thought, as well as specialized knowledge in one of the specific areas. The study is enriched by the interpretation of original philosophical texts, professional seminars, and the development of students' term papers in profile philosophy courses.



Prospects of graduates

The scope and depth of the graduate's knowledge and skills entitle him to continue his studies in philosophy further (3rd degree - PhD.), in the fields of Systematic Philosophy or History of Philosophy (or also in the 3rd degree of Logic and Methodology of Science, if his study programmes allow it), or to pursue professions in humanities-oriented institutions and organizations, organizations and institutions of the third sector, for institutions engaged in empirical identification of the state of society (e.g. The following institutions may be involved in empirical studies of social society, such as public opinion research, editors of professional and social journals, cultural and social institutions, foundations, civic associations, publishers of professional literature, political institutions, state and public administration and the mass media. Graduates can gain approval to teach philosophy, social science and ethics, as well as ethics education in secondary schools and other educational institutions.

Conditions of admission

Selection procedure based on the results of undergraduate studies. Applications of graduates of the study programme Philosophy, or History of Philosophy and related study programmes are accepted, taking into account (bonification) the profile subjects: History of Philosophy, Theory of Knowledge, or Ontology and Philosophical Ethics, or Philosophical Anthropology.



Additional information

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Trnava in Trnava (hereinafter referred to as TU) plans to admit approximately 180 students to the Master's programme in the academic year 2022/2023, depending on the amount of allocated budget funds and the fulfilment of basic and other admission requirements.

The appropriate type of application form must be used for admission.

The basic condition for admission to the Master's degree (Mgr. degree) is the completion of the Bachelor's degree.

The Faculty of Philosophy of the TU reserves the right to make any changes and updates in order to improve the quality of the admission procedure, in accordance with Section 57 (5) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education as amended by later regulations.

Applicants should submit a completed application form to the address of the Faculty's seat: Faculty of Arts, University of Trnava, Hornopotočná 23, 918 43 Trnava. Candidates who have completed lower degree studies before the school. 2021/2022, they will send their application form, diploma and diploma from B.Sc. diploma. Candidates graduating in 2022 will send an application form confirmed by the school. Those candidates who are taking the entrance examination will present the officially certified documents (diploma and certificate of the Bachelor's degree) in person at the presentation on the day of the entrance examination.

The admission procedure begins for a candidate on the date of receipt of his/her written application. For this reason, an applicant who submits his/her application electronically is obliged to deliver it in written form duly documented (proof of payment of the admission fee, certified Bachelor's degree,...).

Applicants who will be admitted on the basis of the selection procedure will send officially certified copies of their diplomas (for M.Sc. studies of the state bachelor's exams) within two days after successful completion of the state exam.

The faculty does not require confirmation of the applicant's health status. If there is a need to take disability into account in the entrance examination process, the applicant shall attach a certificate of disability and the recommended form of examination to the application form.

Applicants may also submit multiple applications to the College. For each study programme it is necessary to submit a new application and pay the fee of 35,- € again.

Applicants who have completed a lower degree abroad shall submit nostrified documents of education in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 422/2015 Coll. A receipt for the payment of the admission fee (in the amount of 35.- €,) must be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form. In case of non-attendance at the entrance examination, the fee is not refundable. The Admissions Committee decides on the points required for admission.



Conditions for international students

Applicants who have completed a lower level of studies abroad shall submit proof of equivalence of studies at secondary schools abroad pursuant to Act No.422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of documents on education and on the recognition of professional qualifications and on the amendment and supplementation of certain acts.

The basic condition of admission is the completion of the Bachelor's degree programme Philosophy, or History of Philosophy and related study programmes with consideration (bonus) for the profile subjects: history of philosophy, systematic philosophy, defence of the thesis.

Applicants who have completed a lower-division degree prior to sch. 2021/2022, will send their application form, certificate and diploma from the B.Sc. They will also be required to submit a diploma and a certificate of completion of studies. Candidates completing their lower secondary studies in 2022 will send an application form certified by the school.

The admission procedure for an applicant to study begins on the date of receipt of his/her written application.
