Evangelical Lutheran Theology

The graduate of the 3rd degree in the study program of Evangelical Theology masters the methods of research in the areas of Evangelical Lutheran Theology (Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies) according to his/her specialization. He/she is capable of independent scholarly reflection and bringing his/her own solutions to problems in the field of evangelical theology.

Theoretical knowledge:

- knows the principles of scientific work,

- is able to research independently and bring own solutions to problems.

Practical skills:

- is able to monitor and analyze the current status and trends of recent research at home and abroad and apply its results to solve current professional problems.

Additional Knowledge:

- is able to collaborate scientifically and systematically with related fields of study.



Prospects of graduates

The graduate of the third degree in Evangelical Theology is familiar with the current state of research in the field of Evangelical Lutheran Theology according to his/her specialization in its biblical, systematic-theological and ecclesiastical contexts, with regard to the theology and practice of the Evangelical Church a.v. in Slovakia, or the broader ecumenical contexts. The doctoral graduate is able to apply the acquired knowledge in an innovative way to address pressing issues in the field of evangelical theology, spiritual life and spirituality in the context of Christian traditions. He/she is able to present analyses and professional solutions to theological problems in the context of church-society relations. Methodologically prepared, capable of critical thinking, equipped with broader and deeper areas of knowledge in the field, the graduate can be employed as a teacher at universities, as an independent researcher in the field of research in evangelical theology and its related fields, in educational and research institutions founded by Christian churches, and in state institutions active in the field of culture and spiritual life.

Conditions of admission

- completed 2nd level university education - submission of a framework project of the dissertation - successful completion of an admission interview on a professional issue close to the chosen topic of the dissertation - part of the submitted project is presented in a foreign language (English, German)



Conditions for international students

Conditions for admission of foreign students are the same as the conditions for admission of citizens of the Slovak Republic, with the exception of foreigners - self-payers and scholarship holders of the Government of the Slovak Republic, for whom the admission examination may also take the form of an admission interview.



Coordinator for students with specific needs
  • Students with specific needs (on the basis of a professional certificate) may apply for a modified form or method of taking the entrance examination depending on the functional limitation due to the disability. They do so by written request attached to the application form, specifying the requirements for a modified entrance examination. We recommend that you consult with the faculty coordinator for work with students with specific needs before submitting your application.

General information on the admission exam

Method of evaluation in the admission committee for doctoral studies: the applicant for doctoral studies is evaluated in the admission procedure according to the following criteria: framework project of the dissertation - 50 points; presentation of the submitted project in a world language (English, German) - 15 points. Knowledge of at least one of the classical and biblical languages (Greek, Hebrew, Latin) at the level of the Master's degree provided at the EBF UK in Bratislava - 10 points. Publication activity, professional awards, academic awards, etc. - 10 points. Weighted study average (hereinafter referred to as 'GPA') - 215 points. The applicant's final score is the average of the number of points awarded by each member of the committee. An applicant is successful in the admissions procedure if he/she obtains at least 60 out of a possible 100 points.
