Graduates have a strongly developed abstract component of thinking based on a thorough mastery of the basic disciplines of library and information science, scientific research methods, and a deep theoretical knowledge of some of the fields of mediamatics and cultural heritage. They are able to work creatively in the field of mediamatics and cultural heritage and to apply the results obtained in other disciplines. Graduates can apply themselves in research in the field of library and information science and in the field of media as experts in memory and cultural institutions, as university teachers, etc., depending on the narrower specialization of their studies and the topic of their dissertation, they can independently run their own business in the field of mass media, provide information services for the state administration, the third sector, or work as specialists in the creation and analysis of information content

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies (third degree study programme) is the acquisition of a second-degree university degree (Act on Higher Education No. 131/2002 Coll., as amended) in the same field of study or in a study programme related in content to the study programme in media studies and cultural heritage. In the case of a foreign applicant or a student who has completed his/her studies abroad, he/she shall submit with his/her application for university studies, no later than at the time of enrolment, a decision on the recognition of the document on the completion of the second cycle of higher education by the relevant institution in the Slovak Republic.

Selection procedure

The admission procedure will be carried out in the form of a selection procedure in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and prerequisites will be admitted to the study.

Rules of the selection procedure:

- Candidates apply for a specific dissertation topic. The dissertation topics will be published together with the announcement of the PhD admission procedure on the official notice board of the faculty and on www.fhv.uniza.sk at least 2 months before the closing date for applications,

.

- the evaluation of the admission procedure and the proposal of applicants for admission to doctoral studies in the relevant study programme shall be carried out by the admission committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty,

- the dean of the faculty shall decide on the admission of the applicant no later than 30 days from the date of the admission examination,

- only those applicants who have successfully passed the entrance examination may be admitted to the studies.

Conditions for international students

For foreign applicants, the admission conditions apply as for applicants from the Slovak Republic. Foreign students studying in Slovak language do not pay tuition fees. Applicants from the Czech Republic may use the form valid in the Czech Republic to apply for studies. For foreign applicants admitted on the basis of interstate agreements, bilateral treaties or for scholarship holders of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the conditions specified in the relevant documents apply.

General information on the admission exam

Framework content of the entrance exam:

- presentation of own project on the chosen topic of the dissertation,

- a professional debate, in which the candidate must demonstrate the prerequisites for independent scientific research activity and a good orientation in the chosen field of study.

The selection of candidates is based on the following ranking:

a) the results of the entrance examination (max. 40 points, the amount of points awarded will be decided by the admissions committee),

b) the results of previous studies (max. 30 points, allocated according to the GPA (weighted grade point average) of the second cycle of higher education according to the following schedule: GPA 1-1,25=30 points, GPA 1,26-1,99=20 points; GPA 2 or more=0 points),

c) publication and scientific activity (max. 30 points, the amount of points awarded will be decided by the admissions committee).
